I think a lot of it depends on the drive you have.  I have one of the
original Par approved drives (The Micropolis 2210A - 1 Gig) and freshly
formatted I'm lucky to get a video stream to the Par with a Q-Factor of
over 14.  When the drive gets about half full, this obviously drops to
about a Q-factor of 11.  Needless to say, SVHS footage pumped in looks
like vhs at best (With Artifacting).  I was told by somebody (I think a
DPS rep) some time ago that the higher the qualit of video you input, the
better your Par can actually digitize it, due to the amount of noise
inherent on lower end tape formats (SVHS for example).  So if what I was
told is correct, you should get a much higher Q-factor setting when pumping
in betacam footage versus SVHS or VHS footage.

I should have my perception system next week, and that coupled with
betacam equipment should solve all of these past Par Problems.
